Nonsai Sor Sanykon vs Alex Vogel 2010

This fight took place at an event entitled Germany vs. Thailand. Nonsai Sor Sanykon first attracted some notice internationally by beating Dzabhar Askerov, himself famous for his stint on The Contender Asia. From the little I've seen of Nonsai, he's a strong kicker who fights a solid game based on controlling his opponents with powerful middle kicks.

This is the first fight I've seen of Alex Vogel. He seems to fight tense, somewhat to his detriment, though his defense is conscientious. Also, he seems to have trouble reading his opponent when under pressure and it's safe to assume that Nonsai has the edge in experience over him in this matchup.

Nonsai wears the blue gloves and Vogel the red.

Part 1

Part 2

Thanks again to Loopnoub for the video. One of the effects of Vogel fighting tense is that Nonsai has an easy time throwing him in the clinch. Clinching involves a sort of relaxed tension and sensitivity to timing and Vogel's tense footwork and body positioning allow Nonsai to dominate the clinch in the later stanzas of the fight. You can also see the power of Nonsai's kicks in the response from Vogel. Unless the kicker has extraordinary power, most fighters will be able to stand their ground against a kick, so for Vogel to step back as he does probably means Nonsai has monstrous power in his middle kicks.

In addition to his middle kick, Nonsai works effectively with straight knees and punches in this fight. He also has a few strong clinch dumps. Vogel doesn't get through with much, though he catches Nonsai with swinging punches on the counter and when Nonsai moves in to clinch. As he loosens up, his punches straighten out. This comes a little too late as Nonsai takes the first three rounds easily and cruises the last 1.5 rounds, walking backward and throwing kicks while Vogel tries to connect with power shots. He gets a couple through, but Nonsai's tactic of stalling in the clinch leaves few opportunities for a knockout, which is what Vogel really needs to win the fight.
